Abstract
Counselling is psychological treatment that needs certain tools in order to effectively handle the clients’ problems. The counseling process is akin to the act of the communication process, which is better and effectively transmitted with the aid of some modern technological devices. In view of the foregoing, the paper looked at these various devices and the ways they help the professional counsellor. It also looked at the utilization and exposition of gadgets such as tape recorders and videotapes to computer assisted counseling, by the counsellor educator in the training of trainee counselors.
Therefore, the constraints of these were considered.

Abstract
The work reviewed research in guidance and counseling. It found out the dimension of research done in the three major aspects of guidance and counseling - educational, vocational and personal – social. The author reviewed research published in Nigerian counseling journals, as well as unpublished M.Ed. and Ph.D thesis of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The review showed that there is a welcome development in the area of personal social guidance and counseling which hitherto was neglected.

EFFECTS OF PREMARITAL COUNSELLING ON STUDENTS’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS MARRIAGE

Abstract
The study examined the effects of premarital counseling on students’ attitudes towards marriage. The study adopted quasi-experimental of the pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design, involving two intact groups. A sample of 161 senior secondary three (SS III) students randomly drawn from four secondary schools in Umuahia education zone of Abia state served as the subject of the study. The subjects in each of the two groups were tested before all after the treatment sessions, which lasted for six weeks. Intact classes of SS III students in the four sampled schools were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received treatment on the conventional school guidance programme. The major finding was that premarital counseling had a significant effect on students’ attitude towards marriage. The implications of these findings for guidance and counseling were highlighted and recommendations made.
WORK STRESS AMONG COUNSELLORS IN ABIA STATE.

Abstract
Stress in organizations is rapidly growing concern to organizational researchers, and management practitioners, because of its relationships with a magnitude of employees and organizational problems such as individual’s mental health and low productivity. Job stress is a condition wherein job-related factors interact with the worker to change (disrupt or enhance) his or her psychological or physiological conditions such that the person in forced to deviate from normal functional. The study south to investigate work stress among counselors in the Abia state. In pursuance of the objectives, three research questions guided the stud. Subjects for the study consisted of 264 practicing school counselors in the state. The entire populations of the counselors were used. The instrument for the data collection was questionnaire. Frequency and mean scores were used in the data analysis. Based on the analysis done, the results showed that administrative variables are associated with work stress if guidance counsellor. Inadequate job specifications are associated with work stress among the counselor. Financial variable also cause stress to the counselors.
IMPACT OF PREMARITAL GUIDANCE ON UNDERGRADUATES’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS FAMILY STABILITY

Abstract
The study sought to examine the effects of premarital guidance on University undergraduates’ attitude towards family stability. A sample of thirty-five students served as the subjects for the study. The subjects were given the pretest after which the programme that lasted for six weeks was administered. At the end of the programme the posttest was given. The pretest and the posttest made use of the same instrument the Family Attitude Questionnaire (FAQ). The 42-item structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher and face-validated by experts. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research question, while t-test of dependence was adopted to test the null hypothesis. The findings of the study indicate that there was positive impact of premarital guidance on the attitude towards family stability and that premarital guidance had a significant effect on undergraduate’s attitude family stability.
EDUCATED MOTHERS’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS SEX EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS: CURRICULUM AND COUNSELLING IMPLICATIONS IN NSUKKA URBAN

Abstract
This study was aimed at finding the attitude of educated mothers towards the introduction of sex education in secondary school curriculum in Nsukka urban of Enugu state. It was a descriptive survey, which utilized structured questionnaire to elicit information from the respondents. The sample of the study was made up of 100 educated mothers randomly composed from ten secondary schools in Nsukka urban. The resident schools counselors helped in the administration of the instrument. Three research questions guided the study. The result of the showed that mothers’ attitude towards sex education in secondary school curriculum was positive. They also accepted that the parents, teachers, counselors, religious bodies and NGOs should be involved in the teaching of se education. Furthermore, their expectations of the effects of sec education were positive. Based on the results of the findings, recommendations were made.
ADOLESCENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF HIV/AIDS PANDEMIC IN ENUGU URBAN, NIGERIA

Abstract
The adolescents’ perception about HIV/AIDS pandemic is the main focus of this study. The study sought to find the perceptions of male and female secondary school students and its relevance to the counseling profession. Three research questions and a null hypothesis was formulated to guide the study. The study sample consisted of 200 respondents from four different co-educational schools in Enugu Urban of Enugu state. A four-point Likert-type questionnaire was used for data collection. The data were analyzed using means and standard deviations for the research questions and t-test statistics for the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that adolescents are aware of the spread of HIV/AIDS and the need for guidance and counseling services. Further analysis showed that there is no significant difference between the perceptions of the male and female adolescents about the spread of HIV/AIDS. The results were discussed, their implications highlighted and recommendations made.

GUIDANCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN SECONDARY SCHOOL SETTING

Abstract
The study investigated the utilization of information technologies in guidance and counseling in the secondary school setting. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study, while the checklist was utilized for data collection. The sample for the study was composed of 40 professionally qualified counselors in secondary schools. The data were analyzed by simple percentages. The result showed a limited use of information technology in guidance and counselling despite the awareness. Lack of fund and other factors such as inadequate supply of power were given as the reasons for not using them. Based on these findings, recommendations were made for implantation.

Abstract
This study examined the effects of electoral attitude counseling programme on youth’s attitude towards electoral violence. Four boys’ secondary schools, two in the urban and two in the rural areas of Nsukka L.G.A. of Enugu state as well as 158 youths were used. In each school, an intact class of SS II, which was randomly composed, was either a control or an experimental group. Before the commencement of the treatment, all the youths were pretested with the instrument “Electoral Violence Questionnaire” (EVQ). For four weeks, the electoral attitude counseling programme was administered to the treatment groups while the conventional counseling was given to the control groups all by the resident counselors of the various schools. At the end of four weeks, the participants were post tested with the same instrument in a rearranged from. The pretests served as covariates to the post test scores. The data generated were analyzed showed that counseling has significant effect on youths’ electoral attitudes. Again, school location was significant in the youths’ electoral attitudes. Based on these findings and their implications, recommendations were made.
ESTABLISHMENT OF COUNSELLING SERVICES FOR EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATIONS OF UBE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN NUSKKA EDUCATION ZONE OF ENUGU STATE

Abstract
This study was on the establishment of counseling services in primary schools for the effective implementation of Universal Basic Education (UBE), in Nsukka Education Zone of Enugu state. Three research questions were formulated which guided the study. Also two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. The population which was the sample was the 210 head-teachers in the zone, made up of one hundred and seventy (170) males and forty (40) females. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaires of the 4, point Likert-type scale. The instrument was validated by expert in counseling psychology of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Cromback alpha was used for the reliability with an index of 0.71. Mean scores were used of the study indicated the need to establish counseling services in primary schools in Nsukka education zone. Recommendations were made accordingly.
COPING STRATEGIES AND ADJUSTMENT OF UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA RETIREES: COUNSELLING IMPLICATION FOR PRE-RETIREMENT

Abstract
The study was about the coping strategies and adjustment of the university of Nigeria, Retirees; Counselling implications. The study adopted the descriptive survey method and the sample was the 98 retirees of the university made up of 66 men and 32 women. The instrument for data collection was the researchers made questionnaire – coping and adjustment questionnaire. It was a 4- point Likert-type questionnaire which was validated by experts and with an index of 0.82 internal consistency reliability through Crombach alpha method. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviations for the research questions and the t-test statistic to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that the retirees need coping and adjustment strategies for emotional stress. They get involved in supportive business to survive as well as adjust to government policies. The counseling implications of the study were highlighted.
TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION AND COUNSELLING IMPLICATIONS OF POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY STUDENTS IN NSUKKA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE

Abstract
This study examined the causes of poor academic performance of secondary school students in Nsukka, L.G.A. and the counseling implications. Three research questions and a null hypothesis guided the study. A thirty-one item structured questionnaire that was developed and validated by experts were used. A descriptive design was utilized for the study and stratified random sampling technique was also used to compose the 300 respondents (117 male teachers and 183 female teachers). Mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions, while t-test statistic was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study showed that poor school environment, indiscipline as a result of poor guidance services and finding contribute to poor academic performance. Based on the result, recommendations were made.

Abstract
This study explored the use of guidance of counselling as an instrument of value reorientation for the youths in secondary schools. The study adopted the descriptive survey design and the sample was the 56 professionally qualified counselors. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions while t-test statistic was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study indicated that the respondents identified the causes of undesirable value orientations among others. Based on the findings, recommendations were made.

Abstract
The concern of the researcher in this study was to examine the adolescents’ perception of child rearing practices, personality development and counseling implications in Nsukka education zone of Enugu state. Two research questions and two hypotheses that were tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. He study adopted t he descriptive survey design. The populations of the study were the senior secondary schools in the Nsukka education zone of Enugu state. Proportionate random sampling technique was used to compose schools that are located in urban and rural areas. The instrument was validated by three experts in counseling psychology and measurement and evaluation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Crombach alpha was utilized for the reliability with an index of 0.80. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions, while t-test statistic was used to test the hypotheses. The result of these study indicated that child rearing practices influence the adolescent personality development. Recommendations were made.

Abstract
Disengagement is the final rite in the life of a worker. It is something worth celebrating; unfortunately it is seen as a problematic period. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to find out the retirement problems of retirees in the eastern senatorial district of Kogi state and its implications for counseling. Four research questions were posed and three hypotheses postulated. A structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The sample consisted of 278 retirees – 143 males and 135 females. The research questions were analyzed using mean scores while the hypotheses were tested with t-statistic at 0.05 level of significance. The findings indicated that retirees have negative perceptions about retirement and they encounter psychological, social and economic problems due to lack of proper planning. It was established that pre- and post-retirement counseling can help in these problems. Based on the findings, recommendations were made.

Abstract
The study was on the influence of family planning and counselling implications of families in Isuikwuato L.G.A. of Abia state. It is a descriptive survey that was guided by three research questions and two hypotheses which was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population was the entire couples in the area while proportionate random sampling was used to compose the 120 couples. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire of the 4- point Likert-type scale. It was validated by experts and trial- tested. Crombach alpha was used for the reliability with an index of 0.081. Mean scores were used for research questions, while t-test was used to test the hypotheses. The result of the study showed that the respondents are aware of both traditional and modern methods of family planning among others. Recommendations were made.
