Brief Biography
Born in Enugu, eastern Nigeria. Studied Medicine at the University of Vienna Medical School in Austria from 1965 to 1971 and received postgraduate training in London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. Currently, a Professor of Tropical Public Health and Primary Health Care, holds several Fellowships amongst which are Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP), Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Public Health (FMCPH), Fellowship of the American College of Tropical Medicine (FACTM), Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of England, Diploma in Tropical Public Health (DTPH) of the University of London and Certificate in Reproductive Health and Strategic Planning for Reproductive and Primary Health Care (Johns Hopkins). Joined the University of Nigeria in1980, soon after promotion to Senior Lecturer in 1984, appointed State Chief Medical Officer of Health and Director Public Health Services of the old Anambra State of Nigeria. Served as Adjunct Professor of Community Medicine in Imo State University and Enugu State University of Technology, and as member of various Expert Working Groups/Committees of the Federal Ministry of Health. Served as Consultant to various international agencies in health-related matters, and Chairman, Faculty of Community Health of the West African College of Physicians. Also served the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in training of specialist doctors in Community Medicine, and as Examiner for both Colleges since 1992 and Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons from 2008 to 2010. Other contributions in academic field include the Headship of the Department of Community Medicine, University of Nigeria and Dean Faculty of Clinical Medicine, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Nigeria. Apart from over two hundred scientific papers delivered at various fora, has over 50 publications (articles, abstracts, reviews, books and book chapters). Authored the books: Primary Health Care for Developing Countries and Synopsis of Occupational and Environmental Health.
