Brief Biography
Professor Uchechukwu Okoro hails from Ndeaboh, Aninri Local Goverment Area, Enugu State, Nigeria. He attended St. Georges School, Ndeaboh, Aninri LGA, Enugu State and Emekuku High School, Owerri from where he obtained his primary and secondary education in 1971 and 1976 respectively. He proceeded with his tertiary education in University of Lagos where he obtained B.Sc (First class honours) in Chemistry in 1982. He further acquired his PhD in Organic Chemistry 1989 from University of Nigeria.
Professor U.C Okoro joined the service of University of Nigeria, Nsukka in the department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry as a graduate assistant and has gone through series of promotions, viz:
1983 – Graduate Assistant
1989 – Lecturer II
1992 – Senior Lecturer
2010 – Professor.
He has held many important positions such as Commissioner for Education, Enugu State government (2013-2015), Head of Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2005-2007), Faculty of Physical Science Postgraduate representative, Member Governing Council of Enugu State University of Science and Technology a (ESUT), Member of board of ESUT College of Medicine and Member Governing Council of Teachers' Registration Council of Nigeria. Further, Professor U.C Okoro has supervised many Doctorate and Master Students in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, University of Nigeria and in other Universities in Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria and a member of the New York Academy of Science.
